Today our new Fall 2010 season, The Salinger Collection, which will be arriving in stores early October, was featured on Freshness Mag. Take a look at the link to get a sneak peak of our photo shoot with photographer Toni Torres and Gentry Men, Anthony Mandler (left), Warren Alfie Baker, Christian Clancy and Rich Skillz.
A big thank you to our friend Wendy Lam of Nitrolicious for the well-crafted piece.

Jerome David Salinger, better known the the world as J.D. Salinger, was one of the most prolific American writers of the mid-twentieth century. He was best known for his 1951 novel, The Catcher in the Rye.
Though reclusive in nature, he still remained one of the most beloved American writers. Born and raised in New York, the earlier part of his career was marked with successes as a writer for The New Yorker.
After releasing The Catcher in the Rye in 1951 he gained immediate notoriety, which catapulted him into the public eye. “His depiction of adolescent alienation and loss of innocence in the protagonist Holden Caulfield was influential, especially among adolescent readers. The novel remains widely read and controversial.
His body of work was a major source of inspiration for GENTRY’s Fall 2010 collection. As an homage to this great American writer, we named our new season The Salinger Collection.

Our good friends over at LA Eyeworks today treated us to a rummage session through their Beverly store. Brent Zerger, Director of Communications, gave us the grand tour of the collection to pull pieces for our campaign shoot this weekend.
After using their beautiful optics in our last season’s campaign, we instantly fell in love with these amazing pieces of eye wear.
A big thank you to our friends at LA Eyeworks who have put Los Angeles on the map for beautiful optical craftsmanship as well as for allowing us to come along with them for the ride.
Thank you Brent and Aunty Gai.

If GENTRY were to have a last name it would be Artigas. The Artigas family are the creative force behind what has become one of LA’s most dynamic spaces, House on Genesee.
In their own words: “Genesee is a place where art, design and fashion converge in space and time. Located in a 1920s pistachio colored neoclassical house, the setting is a contemporary investigation of the 18th century salon. Genesee is a collective environment for artists, designers, architects, writers, and thinkers who seek to understand what it means to produce in these times.”
The Artigas family has fast become GENTRY family. Not only do they carry our line, but they also cook us the most delicious lunches.
In addition to GENTRY, House on Genesee houses lines such as Esquivel, KZO, Odyn Vovk as well as beautiful custom furniture designed by Alejandro.
But it’s the salsa hand-made in small batches my the matriarch of the family that’s the real standout.
And don’t forget to stop by The Esquivel House for “The Handmade” to find a collaborative retail space between Esquivel and Genesee where you can find some beautiful pieces that are…well…handmade.

Last night our favorite LA store manager Nicholas Foster of Confederacy asked us to be a part of a one-night pop up shop he was hosting on behalf of the store at The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
We were a part of a select few of their favorite lines they carry in store to take part in this exclusive shopping experience.
They also brought one of our favorite shirt brands, Native Son, to the pop up shop. These guys are doing amazing fully-customizable shirts complete with personal fittings. And the best part is they turn these shirts around for you in 7-10 days.

Although it was your mother who carried you for 9 months, we cannot forget that it was your father who provided the much needed instigating fertilization element that made you possible.
And to show him how appreciative you are of his virile fertility, why don’t you take the advice of one of Los Angeles’ most prolific stylists and store owners, Ilaria Urbinati, and buy him a GENTRY box set complete with tie, accessories and pocket square.
A big thanks to our friend Ilaria and Nicholas of Confederacy for showing us some love.
We’ll see you guys tonight at the Confederacy Pop Up Shop at The Roosevelt.
You can purchase the best gift your dad ever received at SHOP CONFEDERACY

The much anticipated third season of HBO’s True Blood had its official world premiere yesterday night in Hollywood.
Newcomer to the series, Kevin Alejandro, was looking dapper thanks to the slick sensibilities of LA’s best stylists, Warren Alfie Baker.
Kevin donned The Gatsby tie bar and collar clip to finish off the classic black three-piece suit.
All of which are available to purchase at Revolve Clothing OR Gentry E-commerce.
In 2010, it was believed Mods had long since left our streets. It was thought they were replaced by a lackluster generation of sweats and hoodie wearing individuals who put nothing above comfort.
Thankfully Dean Chalkley discovered this group of young mods at a club in London. Not only did they dress impecabbly, reminiscent of the sharp dressing men and women of the 50’s and 60’s, but they also carried a panache and moxy not seen since…well since the 50’s and 60’s.
In Chalkley’s own words: “These guys are the antithesis of the all too common don’t-give-a-fuck attitude of some young adults,” explains Chalkley. “They’re bright young folk who take a real pride in how they present themselves and they’re really into their music – mainly late 50s and early 60s rhythm and blues. They’re actually from varied backgrounds and different parts of the country – but their shared passion for music, dancing and looking sharp brings them together. And you should see them dance –they look good and they’ve got the moves!”
‘The New Faces’ exhibition opened this weekend at The Book Club on Leonard St. in London.

We had the pleasure of meeting this gentleman last Sunday and both he and his wife are now some of our favorite people.
Thanks to both Alejandro’s as well as stylist/friend/model Warren Alfie Baker for being GENTRY family.
